Basic Wedding Band |
 |
| Duration: |
1 Class |
| Material: |
Copper |
| Experience: |
All Levels - No previous experience required. In fact, all out students start with this project. |
| Aim: |
To teach each
student the use of the very basic jewellery
tools and techniques. General studio safety
is addressed, and the use and storage of
potentially dangerous substances are also
covered. |
| Tools: |
The following
tools will be used and discussed: Saw frame,
saw blades (and how to fit them), half round
pliers, jewellers torch and gas, solder and
flux, acid, ring mandrel (aka triblet),
rawhide mallet, 6" flat file, buff sticks
(and how to make your own), how to use the
flexi-shaft for sanding and polishing. |
|
Techniques: |
Basic ring
making to a certain size, piercing (sawing),
soldering, pickling, shaping, filing,
sanding and polishing. |
|
Outcome: |
Once you have
made this ring, you will be able to easily
understand and apply the same ring making
techniques to many other jewellery
constructions for example; Collets (aka
bezels), bangles and jump-rings. The same
sanding and finishing routine applies to any
jewellery piece and is thoroughly covered
during this project. |
